In need of a quick break away and some festive cheer, then soak up the sights, smells and sounds of Christmas at one of Britain’s atmospheric Christmas Markets and combine it with a relaxing stay at a cosy pub with rooms. The Wheatsheaf, Combe Hay, Somerset

Hidden away in a secret valley, the 16th-century Wheatsheaf is a favoured rural retreat for exploring Georgian Bath, just 15 minutes away. Judges Lodging, York, North Yorkshire

The stunning Grade I-listed townhouse dates from around 1730 and retains many original features despite being refurbished from top to toe. The entire building is shot through with period charm, so expect a quirky interior and stylish bedrooms.
